Hi guys!

Mods here for our penultimate announcements post. As of now, the final event is go! As a special treat, we have unlocked access to the IC community! Anyone who previously played in Utopique, or who hoped to do so, is free to join in on the event and say their IC goodbyes to old CR and the world itself.

The event will be active til 11:29pm on April 30. At that time we'll be closing membership to both comms and locking posting access. However, those already in the comms will be free to keep backtagging as long as they like.

If you have any questions on the event in the meantime, or would like to play with an NPC that isn't topleveled, just let us know on this post or through discord. If you had any special things you wanted your character to do or have done, talk to us and we'll establish any end-game plot involvement that you'd like.

As of right now we're changing all the info pages to reflect this closure. We'll have one last OOC post when we close the game, but until now that's all folks!

An Especially Big Announcement

Hello, Utopique.

Unfortunately, today we have some bad news. For the last few months, we've been losing roughly twice as many characters as we've had coming in, leading to a steady decline in game population and participation. Some of you remain quite active, and the mod team is especially appreciative of our players who've gone out of their way to keep things rolling and challenge us to improve the game. However, we feel that in its current state Utopique doesn't have enough interest to sustain the things we wanted to do with it both as players and as mods, and have decided to close the game. We apologize especially for the abruptness of this announcement and to everyone who apped in the current round. There is an intro log for greeting everyone who joined us this round, if you wish to use it.

In order to end things neatly, the game will stay open with normal updates through April 30. Our event this month will provide an IC ending to the PCs' situation, so you're welcome to play out the end or not as you like. Again we apologize for the suddenness and thank players both current and past for their support on this venture!

In the meantime, the mods will be here to answer any questions about our decision or any plotting details you'd like cleared up. If you had any burning curiosities, let us know and we'll try to make as satisfying a conclusion as we're able.

With all that in mind, we'll proceed to this week's usual stuff, starting with our end plot:

Day 81 this month is the First of Spring, and Merriwynne's New Year! The them of the celebration in Butterwick, and thus in Arden Grove, is "out with the old and in with the new". With all the excitement the last few months, this time has been chosen to take action on current problems and potential threats. Kicking off the town's official New Year celebration on Day 79, the Chief of Police is set to give an address -- rumour has it there's some major change in the air!

After the announcement, the celebration is on. Early spring flowers are in feature, and the whole town will be decorated with them. A unique treat is in every child's hand -- little blocks of soft gel candy covered in powdered sugar, made from boiling the deliciously fruity crystal candy crocuses blooming around town. They're very tasty, but when in contact with human warmth, they get sticky very fast.

But it isn't all daffodils and sunshine. Just in time for the festival, it seems Crepe's power has gone even more out of whack. Random doors will be opening all over town, in unexpected places. You might find yourself walking into your dorm room only to be deposited in a shop -- or in the lake. Additionally, some of these doors go who know's where, and weird creatures keep cropping around town. Mostly they're harmless -- a pink zebra here, a singing snake there. But some of them are more dangerous -- any characters with monsters in their world may find familiar enemies around any corner. The exact encounters are up to players: bring absolutely anything you like from your canon or any other. Whatever sounds fun to play with, you can find!

Ultimately, on Day 81, as the New Years bell rings above the chapel, the doors abruptly vanish. Come morning, there's a knock on every dorm room. Messengers from City Hall have arrived to tell your characters that the problem is solved -- as of last night, Crepe's power is back under control. The combined knowledge of Butterwick and Odd Hollow scholars has resulted in the invention of a device that prevents a Talent from running rampant, and now, you can all go home.

For the next two days, Crepe can be found in the park, using the doorway of a gazebo to create portals to characters' home worlds. Those who wish to leave may do so at will. However, if your character wishes to stay, they can do that too. Those who remain will be given official citizenship in Butterwick and are free to travel where they like, and live how they want. All that's left is to make your choice -- and say your goodbyes.

Hey guys, Sarah here for those that have been following me on plurk you know that a family emergency happened. My grandpa had to get hip replacement surgery and is still on a chemo treatment and will be bed ridden for awhile. So my mom is going to take care of her within the next week and I have to handle things at home.

I really hope I won't be on hiatus the full month like I'm planning, but till then Aqua is on autopilot.

Here's the monthly prompts for you all:

► Maybe it's the doors, but there seems to be an oddly large number of cats in town this month. They're plain, ordinary cats, but they're showing up everywhere -- and possible shredding your characters' belongings. Feed them, adopt them, or chase them away, it's up to you! But you may find that crossing a black cat's path really does bring bad luck, an apparent curse of minor troubles for a full day after the fact.

► Some merchants from Odd Hollow have set up stalls on the beach. As Spring approaches and the weather begins to warm, now's a great time to get yourself some seafood or swim-worthy clothes. Hope you like raw fish!

► Days 76-85 are vacation for the local school children. They'll be running around during normal school hours for this time, as they enjoy the space between one school year and the next. It's also time for the wealthy and exceptionally talented children who've finished primary school to pack up and leave for greener secondary school pastures, so there are an unusual number of carriages coming to and fro. If you'd like to take a quick jaunt to the other villages nearby, this is a good way to do so. They're mainly set up the same way as Arden Grove, but as the locals aren't used to visitors from another world, you'll find yourself an oddity of sorts. Just keep in mind, your characters will have no documentation to obtain jobs there and will need to return to Arden Grove to support themselves. If you'd like your character to start a venture of some sort in a nearby village, let the mods know and we'll be glad to work with you!

► Remember those illness clouds from a few months back? They're back -- this time, rather than fevers and flus, characters who pass through these weird moldy-smelling areas will find themselves stricken with a horribly itchy rash. Oddly enough, this rash seems to be cured by the application of very cold water, so it's easy to get rid of. But the locals are talking about seeing a strange person hanging around the affected areas -- a rumor is growing that there's an evil spirit responsible.

► As Spring approaches (and with it, the Merriwynne New Year), the snow that's hung around recently is finally all gone, and in its place plants are coming to life. In the park and in little patches along the streets and in yards, you may find colorful, crocus-like flowers that seem to be made of glass. They smell wonderful... in fact, they smell like fruit. You'll spot the local kids sticking them in their mouths, so give it a try! These flowers might be the strangest but most delightful fruity hard candy you've ever had.

Utopique was my first full DWRP experience and it was absolutely wonderful; I couldn't have asked for a cuter game or more wonderfully chill players. Unfortunately, I've been losing a lot of steam with Minato despite hiatuses and canon updates, so I've decided to drop him instead of dragging my feet forever. If I ever do get that 10% furry SOL craving again, you bet I'll be back here, maybe with Minato, maybe with another character, but Utopique will always be on my mind and in my heart.

That said, digging around Minato's desk will turn up something like a last will and testament, only half written because he thought he'd have more time, but he doesn't have that many possessions anyways. What's listed so far:
- His Evoker goes to Yukari as a reminder and promise of their bond;
- MP3 player/headphones to Rin Matsuoka, because it's something Minato's always carried around, and Rin's been his roommate ever since he came here, supporting him just like his Engrish rap;
- 2 million 5-yen coins, aka dead weight coinage, to be dumped right in front of Emil's room, good luck getting out, because maybe he can figure out how to use them to get the nice things he wants for Cypress;
- Fireworks he earned from helping out at the Starlight Fesetival, to be given to Gambit, that he'd been planning to save for when he can celebrate her birthday; he didn't know about the fire thing :(
- And his last Frost Cap is for Winter, as a sign of friendship and thanks for the pie

Hi guys!

A really short post here. Our monthly plot is up! Enjoy sharing the memories of your darkest moments, such as when you were caught cheating on a test or let out a really nasty fart... or you know, actually depressing things. The usual. The chapel will be fine, and OOCly we still encourage you all to check it out!

I'm new here, bringing in a tsundere basketball player - Midorima Shintarou from Kuroko no Basuke! He's coming in as a Liger so he won't be considered a proper lion and therefore, he won't exactly have it easy. He's in the Holly Alliance and rooming in #204. He's also a horoscope nut so expect him to carry ridiculous lucky items with all the dignity! Always dignity!

Hello friends, I'm Juri and I was here for a hot minute in the fall before I had to drop due to RL being itself. But! I am back with Chiaki Nanami from Super Danganronpa 2. Like her castmates, she can occasionally be full of spoilers but I will avoid them by default. That said, I've got her permissions over this way which also double as an opt out post, so please let me know if you want me to avoid anything!

Hello everyone!! I'm Olivia, a brand new player to this game, bringing you Hajime Hinata from Dangan Ronpa! You may know him as the protagonist of DR2, but I've taken him from after the Kibou-hen episode of the DR3 anime which is a super spoilery canon point, so if you want to know a little more about him, highlight the white text on his permissions post or you can comment here to either opt out of spoilers or out of playing with Hinata entirely if you'd prefer that!

His feature type is martial eagle, meaning he has big ass wings and feathers that cover his left eye. Naturally this also puts him in the Holly alliance; he's staying in room 201 with Naoya and Emiya!

She is a swole young birdlady who is very alarmed by this situation, but she'll still help out basically anyone who asks her for anything at all, something you should absolutely completely abuse. She is a hotblooded idealist who is trying very hard not to be such a hotblood, and as such she's down to her temper and idealism winning over her practicality only 7 times out of 10! Hi guys!

Apps are now closed until April 1st at 12:01am PST! If you know anyone who's still considering the game, our current TDM is here! And with the new characters, there's a new intro post for new characters, though older ones are certainly welcome to post to it as well!

A few different player-run things are happening this month, such as zombies? Please save Arden Grove from these fiends. The monthly event will be posted on March 18th, but here's a quick rundown on what you can expect for next week. As always, if you ever have any suggestions for events, we'd love to hear them!

The night of Day 69 (...Night 69?) is a little warmer than the past few winter weeks. But that's not exactly a good thing, because if you're a night owl, you may see a yellow glow from the direction of the chapel and park. If you're one to investigate, you'll find that someone has set a fire inside of the chapel, the monsters.

Details about how characters can help during and after the fire will be described once the post goes up, but PCs will mostly be delegated to helping those still at the festival in the park to evacuate just in case! The chapel itself will only take minor damage (because I don't want to burn down a game mechanic while Cleo is on hiatus—) so the fire itself isn't the main part of the event...

...dramatic pause aside, there'll be a small fundraiser almost immediately after the night of the fire in order to make repairs on the chapel. Characters will be enlisted into helping run booths, using their skills to help rebuild whatever may have been damaged, or to take on the activities of the chapel for a few days while it's out of service. The fundraiser itself will be in the form of a small market, where some shady looking trinkets may have found their way into innocent seller's (and buyer's!) hands.

These trinkets will allow a short bond between your character and whoever your character may touch, resulting in a sharing of memories! More specific details will be out when the post is, but the length of the memory bond and the vividness of what people see are going to be up to you! It's also completely optional, and however it happens is up to player discretion!

Thank you everyone for enjoying Utopique while we've been rearranging some of our IC and OOC mechanics! We always appreciate your feedback and your patience while we figure out what runs smoothly and what doesn't ♥

(I should mention that the chapel will still be available ICly, despite how I'm trying to wreck everything—)

And finally we just want to reiterate once more that players can do whatever they want with the setting elements we've given. If your character is doing something that will affect a lot of people let us know and we'll work it into the monthly prompts! We also just encourage everyone to run freely with everything -- the chances of us saying "no" or asking for a retcon are extremely low! We would like players to feel they can make any idea come true without having to get express permission -- if something sounds fun to you, do it.

This is just a quick note that I (Cleo) will be on hiatus for the month of March due to some irl issues. Here's the monthly prompts for you all:

► Winter is finally starting to loosen it's icy grip on Butterwick, but it's still a few weeks yet until Spring. In the meantime, you can notice those poor, brave Lorlean traders bundled up in heaps of clothing, muttering under their breath about how much they hate the cold. In an attempt to cheer everyone up, Arden Grove is hosting a small food and drink festival in the park near the chapel, which takes place from Day 66 to Day 69, but will be cut short due to the monthly event! There won't be a mod posted mingle about this, but you're all encouraged to make your own posts about the varied foods and drinks (alcoholic and not!) that you could find—various restaurants, showing off their skills, loving families donating homecooked meals, expensive wines imported from across borders—you name it!

► Throughout the month, goods from Lorlea will be making their way into the hands of hungry residents. Mostly they're here for the festival (and to make money, of course) but they can be found being sold across various vendors throughout the streets. Spicy food, straight from Lorlea! Try it while you can! If you're not too afraid to approach the scaled merchants, you'll be able to pick up a yummy, hot dish... but hey, after awhile shouldn't the heat go away? You might find the effect lasting up to hours later, and any merchant will just tell you that it's completely normal.

► On March 11th we'll be posting about the upcoming event, which will take place ICly on Day 69, OOCly on March 18th! More details will be coming then. Until that day, you'll be hearing the locals talking among themselves pensively, as if they're on the cusp of worrying about the future. Looks like those warnings from last month really got to them, huh?

► The last spot here is reserved for an upcoming player suggested door event! Details are still being hashed out, but I can promise you all right now that it's not about food.

You can tell that I was hungry when I wrote this.

If you find that you'd like to switch rooms, here's a reminder that you're all free to move your characters around the various alliance documents as you wish!
